All your questions answered...and a free showbag!
A Gannwarra service club is being praised for its leadership on helping to get the community “fruit fly ready” for the season.
The Lions Club of Kerang has taken the initiative in organising a community forum on fruit fly next Wednesday (September 19) at its clubhouse in Park Road (opposite the racecourse).
The forum is backed by the Greater Sunraysia Pest Free Area, and is offering those attending a showbag (including a free fruit fly trap) and free refills of traps brought along by members of the community.
GSPFA Regional Coordinator Deidre Jaensch said she was thrilled at the leadership shown by the club and the community.
“It’s exactly the sort of cooperation and buy-in we’re trying to encourage right throughout the GSPFA – because this is an issue that affects everyone,” Ms Jaensch said.
“It’s not just a grower or horticulture issue, but the ripple effects impact on everyone – and the reality is that the only solution is a community-wide approach.”
The session will offer information on garden hygiene, what people can do to reduce the risk of fruit fly in their garden and information about the life cycle of the pest.
The Community Forum will be held at the Lions Club of Kerang’s rooms at 45 Park Road, opposite the racecourse on Wednesday, September 19 from 7pm. Further information from the club (03) 5452 2204.
